Tapestry Of Vietnam
Welcome to Tapestry of Vietnam, where your senses and imagination will be aroused by the artwork served up by Ms. Nguyen Thi Mai, a new generation artist of Vietnam.
"Tapestry" denotes not only the canvas that Mai works on, but the fabric of life that she draws her inspiration from. Her cosmopolitan outlook is evident in her masterpieces, differing from the traditional Vietnamese paintings.

Canvas
Mai's main creation is on canvas. Starting off with oil in 2004, she switched to acrylic when she found it to be a much more user friendly medium to work with.
Mai's work is not typical of Vietnamese artists. One notices her interest in abstraction and her style is distinctly contemporary.
Her subjects are also different, with a keen focus on the minority tribes of Vietnam - the large tree covered with red leaves standing in front of an old shophouse in the Old Quarters is so cliché ....

Lacquer
The mere mention of lacquer invokes images of Vietnam. After all, Vietnam is well known for its lacquer products: table wares, decorative items, and of course painting.
Mai started experimenting with lacquer in 2007. Lacquer painting is much more painstaking and it takes up to months to complete a masterpiece.

Paper
Another medium that has inspired Mai is the use of ink on paper. Not any ordinary paper, but Diep paper that has been laced with powdered shell of clams (diep). Thus its name.
Ink painting is easy to simple to create and it offers the artist an uncomplicated medium to express herself when flashes of inspirations hit!
